Are You Living Your Priorities or Someone Else’s?
It’s Easy to Miss Your Purpose—Here’s What You Should Do Instead
Over my 30 years of following Jesus and working with hundreds of people, I’ve seen firsthand how difficult it can be to take control of our priorities and live with purpose. The pressure to simply "go with the flow" can often distract us from what truly matters.
The Struggle with Living Our God-Given Priorities
Despite Jesus’ victory over sin, death, and Satan, the world still lies under the influence of the enemy. Even though Jesus reigns with all authority, we live in a fallen world where the pull of sin and the enemy's influence can easily block us from fulfilling our God-given purpose.
In 1 John 5:19-20, the Apostle John reminds us that, “The whole world lies in the power of the evil one,” but God has given us understanding and the ability to overcome through Christ. The challenge, however, is knowing how to tap into the tools and strength God has given us to live out His purposes.
Living with Clear Vision
Without a clear, energizing, and customized vision of what God wants to do in and through us, it’s difficult to align our actions with our priorities. Many Christian professionals, despite being successful at work, struggle with understanding their purpose in life. To live out our God-given priorities, we need clarity about what matters most and where God is directing us.
The First Step: Getting Clear on Your Priorities
The first step in living your priorities is to get clear on what they are. Ask yourself:
What does God want you to do with your life?
What matters most in this season of your life?
Until you have a clear understanding of your purpose, the distractions of the world and the expectations of others will control your time. Take the time now to identify your God-given purpose and set the course for what matters most.
My goal is to help busy believers experience God more deeply, grow consistently—both spiritually and personally—and confidently live out their unique purpose.
