Keeping the Faith When Everything is Going Wrong
The Power of Knowing God's Promises
Jesus promised us an abundant life, filled with His love, joy, and peace (John 10:10, Galatians 5:22-23). Through knowing God and receiving His promises, we can experience divine blessings and His eternal life (2 Peter 1:3-4, 2 Corinthians 1:20). Yet, in this fallen world, we face tribulations, hardships, and challenges that can shake our faith.
How the Hebrews Responded to Unfair Hardships
The believers in Hebrews endured severe hardships, including having their property seized, public reproach, and tribulation. Despite these challenges, they "accepted joyfully" the seizure of their property, showed sympathy for imprisoned believers, and remained strong in their faith. They did so because they knew they had "a better possession and a lasting one" (Hebrews 10:34).
The Essential Power of Knowledge
The key to enduring hardship is knowing and believing that we have eternal life—a better possession and lasting one (John 14:1-3). Jesus assured His followers that in His Father’s house are many dwelling places, and He is preparing a place for them. This promise provides hope and strength in difficult times.
Not Blind Faith, but Faith Based on Knowledge
Our faith is not blind but rooted in the knowledge of God's promises. Hebrews 10:36-39 encourages us to keep our confidence because we have a guaranteed eternal life with Jesus. When we focus on this truth and the eternal reward that awaits us, our faith is strengthened to endure life’s challenges.
Focusing on Eternal Life
Earthly struggles are temporary, but eternal life with God is forever. By focusing on the reality of heaven, we gain the strength and endurance to keep going, even when everything is going wrong. This knowledge empowers us to endure and stay true to our faith, knowing that God's promises are real and guaranteed.
