How to Experience God Using the Bible
Transform Your Life Through Prayerful Study
If you desire to experience more of the abundant life that Jesus promised, you’re not alone. I’ve been following Jesus and studying His Word for over 40 years, and I’m currently experiencing a mini-revival in my life. And, the best part is, you can experience this transformation too!
My Personal, Present Mini-Revival
While I haven’t had any dramatic angelic visitations or powerful moments during church services, I’m experiencing deep spiritual growth and renewal through prayerful study of God’s Word. This is something every single person can do.
Fresh Vision = Real Growth and Change
As I study the Bible in God’s presence, I see things with fresh vision, and with that new insight comes spiritual energizing. 2 Corinthians 3:18 says, “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” This verse reveals how beholding God in His Word leads to transformation. We don’t directly see God’s face, but when we focus on His words, we begin to see His reflection, and that has the power to transform us.
Beholding God in His Word Changes Us
The more we behold God through His Word, the more we are gradually transformed into the image of Jesus. As Romans 8:29 says, God's plan is for us to be conformed to the image of His Son. God has designed all of us to be visionaries, and He wants us to see clearly the life He’s called us to live and the good works He’s prepared for us. That’s why Ephesians 1:17–18 says we should pray for a “spirit of wisdom and revelation” to enlighten the eyes of our hearts.
When we focus on Jesus through His Word, the Holy Spirit takes those words and drives out false beliefs, replacing them with truth. Just like 1 John 3:2 says, when we see Jesus as He is, we will be made like Him. This transformation is so powerful that simply beholding Jesus—whether in His Word now or when we see Him face-to-face—has the ability to make us like Him.
God’s Word is Changing Me, and It Can Change You
Right now, as I study Romans, I’m seeing more of His nature, His plans, and His truth. It’s changing me! I feel more motivated to spend time with God. My faith is growing, my clarity on His purposes is increasing, and I’m becoming bolder in sharing my faith. I recently had an amazing experience in a Wal-Mart parking lot with a young man, sharing my faith and seeing his life impacted. My victory over temptation is also increasing.
This can happen for you too! Even if you’ve been following Jesus for a long time, you can still experience fresh transformation through the Word of God.
How to Experience God Using the Bible:
Pick a Passage – Choose a passage of Scripture and begin to read it slowly and prayerfully.
Reflect Deeply – Think about what the passage means and how it applies to your life. Ask yourself, “What is God saying to me through this?”
Write Down Your Thoughts – Journal your reflections and keep it interactive with Jesus. For example, “Jesus, thank You for revealing that Your plan for me is to be conformed to Your image. I see that Your love is so great that You want me to have a life like Yours—full of truth, grace, and victory.”
Respond to Jesus – As you continue to study, ask God for deeper insights and thank Him for the transformation He’s bringing into your life. Each time you behold Him in His Word, the Holy Spirit will take those truths and build them into your character.
Conclusion:
As you behold God’s glory in His Word, you will be transformed, experiencing more and more of the life and nature of Jesus Christ. By focusing on His promises and truth, you’ll be moved from one level of glory to the next, growing in faith, hope, and love.
My goal is to help busy believers experience God more deeply, grow consistently—both spiritually and personally—and confidently live out their unique purpose.
